Us, American

"Us, American" explores the process of city planning and the experience of urban sprawl in New York City woven with the memories of a conflicted young artist who calls this city her hometown. While she recognizes her struggles within this evolving, crowded landscape, she contributes to the mania by insisting on sticking around. This work builds upon a lived experience of the architectural wonders of New York City and its impressive (possibly oppressive) feats of verticality and design, while the discomfort of gentrification haunts but the hope for social integration lingers.
